Stop Guessing How Fit You Are. Start Knowing.

In Body Body Composition Dublin at West Wood Club

Are your bathroom scales telling you the whole truth?

You step on the bathroom scales. The number goes up. Or down. Or stays exactly the same no matter how hard you've trained this month.

And you're left with the same question you always had: what does that number actually mean?

Scales can't tell you if you've built muscle. They can't tell you if that stubborn weight is fat or water. They can't tell you if your body is ageing faster than it should, or whether your heart is under more strain than you realise.

InBody testing can.

We've brought professional-grade body composition analysis into West Wood Club, and for a limited time, every member can access the full suite of tests completely free. Normally €120. Right now, nothing.

Here's everything you need to know about what it is, what you'll learn, and how to turn your results into real progress.

What is InBody testing?

InBody testing is a fast, non-invasive scan that reveals what's actually happening inside your body. Not what the mirror shows. Not what the scales show. What's really there.

You stand on the machine, hold the handles, and in under a minute, it measures your body using a technology called bioelectrical impedance analysis. A tiny, completely painless electrical current runs through your body and measures how easily it passes through different tissues. Muscle conducts it differently to fat. Water conducts it differently to bone.

From that single test, you get a detailed breakdown most gyms simply can't offer.

We're not using a basic bathroom-scale version of this technology. West Wood Club has invested in the same equipment used by hospitals, elite sports teams and medical researchers, including the InBody 380 analyser, the BPBIO750 blood pressure monitor, and the InGrip hand dynamometer, all connected through our InBody Touch kiosk for a smooth, self-service experience.

You don't need to book a consultation with a specialist. You don't need any preparation beyond the basics we'll cover below. You simply book with a trainer, show up, take the test, and walk away with a full picture of your health in minutes.

Why this beats scales, callipers and guesswork

Bathroom scales give you one number: total weight. That's it. They can't tell the difference between a kilogram of muscle and a kilogram of fat, and they definitely can't tell you where on your body that weight sits.

Skinfold callipers are better, but they rely on someone pinching your skin in a handful of spots and estimating the rest. The result depends heavily on who's doing the pinching, and it misses visceral fat entirely, because that fat is wrapped around your organs, not sitting under your skin.

InBody testing measures your whole body directly, segment by segment, using the same electrical impedance technology trusted by hospitals and sports science labs. It's faster than callipers, more accurate than scales, and it gives you numbers you can actually track and trust over time.

What you'll actually learn

Your real body composition

This is the heart of the test, and it's where most members are surprised.

The InBody 380 breaks your body down into muscle, fat and water, then goes further than any scale ever could:

Muscle mass, not just weight. You'll see exactly how much muscle you're carrying, and where. Are your legs stronger than your upper body? Is one side of you working harder than the other? The test shows you.

Body fat percentage. Not an estimate. A precise reading of how much of your body is fat versus lean tissue. Two people can weigh exactly the same and have completely different body fat percentages. This is the number that actually matters for your health and your goals.

Visceral fat level. This is the fat that wraps around your organs, and it's the type most strongly linked to heart disease and diabetes. You can't see it. You can't pinch it. But the InBody 380 measures it, and it's one of the most important numbers in your entire result sheet.

Segmental analysis. Your arms, legs and trunk are all measured separately, so you'll know immediately if you're building strength evenly or if one area needs more attention.

Body water balance. Dehydration, inflammation and poor recovery all show up here. It's a number most people have never seen before, and it explains a lot about how you've been feeling.

Phase angle and cellular health. This measures the integrity of your cells themselves. Athletes and health professionals use this figure to track how well the body is recovering and adapting to training.

Your progress over time. Every test you take gets logged, so instead of guessing whether last month's training worked, you'll see a graph. Muscle up. Fat down. Real proof, not a feeling.

Your blood pressure, done properly

Alongside your body composition scan, you'll use the BPBIO750 to check your blood pressure. It's fully automated, contact-free and takes less than a minute.

You'll get your systolic and diastolic pressure, your pulse rate, and your mean arterial pressure, all synced directly with your InBody results so you get one complete health picture instead of two separate numbers that don't talk to each other.

High blood pressure often has no symptoms at all. Most people who have it don't know until something goes wrong. A one-minute check in our private fitness assessment rooms could be the reason you catch it early.

Your grip strength, and what it predicts

The InGrip might be the simplest test in the suite, but don't underestimate it. You squeeze the handle, and within seconds you'll know your hand grip strength to the nearest 0.1kg.

Grip strength sounds like a small thing. It isn't. Research consistently links it to overall muscular strength, functional capacity and long-term health, particularly as we get older. It's one of the clearest, cheapest predictors of how well your body is holding up, and it takes ten seconds to measure.

One result sheet, everything together

Once all three tests are complete, everything appears together on your InBody Touch kiosk and your personal result sheet. Body composition, blood pressure, grip strength, all in one place, easy to read and easy to compare next time.

No spreadsheets. No guesswork. Just a clear, professional snapshot of exactly where you stand today.

Now Available at all six West Wood Clubs

This isn't a trial running in one location. The full InBody Health Corner, body composition, blood pressure and grip strength, is now installed and ready for members at all six West Wood Clubs: Clontarf, Leopardstown, Westmanstown, Dún Laoghaire, Aston Quay and Sandymount.

Wherever you train, the same professional-grade testing is available to book at your gym desk. No need to travel across the city or wait for a specific location to catch up. Whichever club is yours, your free test is ready when you are.

How to prepare for your test

To get the most accurate reading, a few simple steps make a real difference:

  • Ideally, test in the morning before eating

  • Avoid intense exercise for a few hours beforehand

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before testing

  • Stay hydrated, but avoid a large meal or drink right before your test

  • Remove socks and any metal jewellery, as these can affect the reading

None of this needs to be perfect. Even a rough first test gives you a baseline. Consistency matters more than precision on any single visit.

How to use your results

This is where most people stop too soon. A result sheet full of numbers is only useful if you actually do something with it. Here's how.

Set a real target, not a vague one

"I want to lose weight" is not a plan. "I want to lose four kilograms of fat while keeping my muscle mass exactly where it is" is a plan, and it's the kind of goal your InBody results make possible.

Once you know your starting muscle mass, fat mass and body water, you can set a target that's specific to your body, not a generic number pulled from an app.

Track trends, not single numbers

One test tells you where you are. Two or three tests, spaced 6-8 weeks apart, tell you where you're heading.

Don't panic over one reading. Bodies fluctuate daily with hydration, food, sleep and hormones. What matters is the direction of travel over time, and that's exactly what your InBody history graph shows you.

Bring your results to your trainer

Your result sheet becomes far more powerful in the hands of one of our personal trainers. Segmental muscle data can reveal imbalances worth correcting. A high visceral fat reading might shift the focus of your programme toward cardiovascular work. Low muscle mass in your legs might mean it's time to add more lower-body strength training.

Ask any of our team to walk through your results with you. That conversation alone can save you months of training in the wrong direction.

Use blood pressure and grip strength as early warning signs

If your blood pressure reading comes back high, or your grip strength is lower than expected for your age, don't ignore it. These aren't just gym statistics. Bring them up with your GP. Catching these things early is one of the simplest ways to protect your long-term health.

Know when to check again

Body composition doesn't change overnight. As a general rule, most people need six to eight weeks of consistent training and nutrition before a second test would show a meaningful shift. Keep that in mind as you plan your next steps with your trainer.

Common questions from members

Is InBody testing safe? Yes. The electrical current used is imperceptibly low and completely safe for almost everyone. If you have a pacemaker or other implanted medical device, or if you're pregnant, let our staff know before testing, as they'll be able to advise you.

Does it hurt? Not at all. You simply stand on the platform and hold the handles. Most members say it feels like nothing more than standing still for a minute.

How long does the full suite take? Body composition, blood pressure and grip strength together take around five minutes from start to finish.

Will I get my results straight away? Yes. Your full result sheet is ready the moment you finish testing, and it's also saved to your profile so you can compare it against future tests.

Do I need to be a certain fitness level to take the test? No. This test is designed for every member, whatever stage you're at. Total beginners get just as much value from it as advanced trainers, arguably more, because it gives you a clear starting point.

How often should I test? As a general guide, most people need six to eight weeks of consistent training before a repeat test would show a genuine change.

Why we're giving this away

We built the InBody Health Corner because we believe every member deserves to know exactly what's happening in their body, not just what the scales say.

Normally, the full suite, body composition, blood pressure and grip strength, costs €120. For a limited time, it's free for West Wood Club members.

We're doing this because once you see your own results, everything about your training changes. You stop guessing. You start training with a target. And that's when real progress happens.

Places are limited, and this offer won't run forever.
