Family Changing Rooms

Simple rules to keep changing safe, private and stress-free for families
Home / swimming / lessons / family changing rooms

WEST WOOD CLUB FAMILY CHANGING ROOMS.

The two rules that matter most.

The Showering rule

Your Family Changing Room is a mixed adult-and-child facility. Swimwear must be worn at all times in the shower area.

The showers are for a quick rinse only. They are not for full showering without swimwear.

Changing in cubicles only

Because your family changing rooms are a shared space for adults and children, all changing into and out of swimwear must take place in a private cubicle.

Changing in open areas is not permitted. If all cubicles are in use, wait until one becomes available.

This helps ensure privacy, comfort and respect for everyone using the facility.

Family Changing Rooms at West Wood Club

West Wood Club has adult changing rooms in all our fitness clubs in Dublin.

We also provide purpose-built Family Changing Rooms in:

  • Clontarf

  • Leopardstown

  • Westmanstown

These family changing spaces are designed for you if you’re a parent or guardian with a child under 12 who is using the pool for:

  • Swim lessons

  • The West Wood Swimming Academy

  • A family swim

Your Family Changing Rooms exist for one simple reason: to make changing safer, easier and more private for you and your children — especially when you need to accompany a child of the opposite sex.

Who the Family Changing Rooms are for

You can use the Family Changing Rooms if:

  • You are a parent, guardian or caregiver with a child aged 12 or under

  • You or your child are attending swim lessons (including non-members enrolled in lessons)

  • Your child is attending Fitzone camps where swimming is part of the activity

You cannot use the Family Changing Rooms if:

  • You are an adult on your own

Solo adult use is not allowed — please use the male or female adult changing rooms instead.

Age policy (important)

  • If your child is under 12, they must use the Family Changing Rooms

  • If your child is over 12, they should use the appropriate male or female changing rooms

  • Children under 12 cannot use the Family Changing Rooms on their own. You must supervise them at all times while they are in the club

How to use the Family Changing Rooms

A quick, clear guide for you and your kids.

1) Arrive and prepare

  • Enter the Family Changing Rooms together

  • Use a locker for your belongings (Please don’t leave valuables unattended)

2) Get changed in a cubicle

  • Use a private changing cubicle to change into swimwear

  • Keep bags and clothes tidy so everyone has space

3) Pre-swim rinse (if needed)

  • The showers are communal (not cubicles) and intended for a brief rinse

  • Swimwear must stay on — always. This applies to you and your children

4) Swim time

  • Lock your belongings away

  • Access the pool as directed in your club (Some locations have direct access to poolside)

5) Post-swim rinse

  • Have a quick rinse to remove chlorine

  • Swimwear stays on in the showers — no exceptions

6) Dry and change

  • Return to your cubicle to dry off and change

  • Use the hairdryer stations as needed

  • Please leave your cubicle ready for the next family

The shower rule explained (why we are strict)

We’ve had a small number of situations where people were simply unsure of the rules, so we want to be completely clear.

The Family Changing Rooms are mixed-use facilities. Adults and children may be present at the same time.

That’s why:

  • You cannot shower without swimwear

  • The shower area is for a short rinse only

  • The rule protects your privacy, comfort and peace of mind, and that of other families

If you want a full shower without swimwear, please use the adult male or female changing rooms (where appropriate).
